On Monday, the Detroit Pistons announced a partnership to form a youth percussion ensemble, provide concert tickets to fourth-graders and fund the Sphinx Organization’s annual Sphinx Honors Competition.

The Pistons said Monday team owner Tom Gores, Vice Chairman Arn Tellem and the Detroit Pistons Foundation are contributing through a multi-year partnership with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
The money supports efforts to create a youth percussion ensemble and subsidizes symphony concert tickets for fourth-grade students in Detroit’s public schools.
Officials say the Pistons’ involvement is expected to bring hundreds more students into the competition.
